Humor and fresh breath is the Key to Blog Success

There is one thing that I never understood about television commercials. Why do advertising companies make serious commercial? There should be a law that makes all television commercials funny. It would stop wasting everyone’s time and we would actually not have to flip channels to avoid commercials.
I know as soon as I see a serious television ad, I reach for the remote.
Doctor’s always say laughter is the best medicine. So why not show a commercial about a certain cancer drug showing a cancer patient that has lost his hair go into a party and get ripped on by his friend. “What’s with the Teddy Savalis look, Frank?”
Then the next commercial could be him wig shopping and trying on all kinds of crazy wigs. I would crack up at that, and maybe learn something in the process.
Do you know how funny a commercial about erectile dysfunction could be? The possibilities are endless for that topic. You could have a tiny white guy on a packed bus surrounded by large African-American males; each of them laughing at him as he looks around worried and insecure. There doesn’t even need to be dialogue here. We would all get the point.
Blogs should be looked at in the same vein. I wouldn’t waste my time reading a serious blog and I know I am in the majority here.
People have too much to worry about at home and at work, and they don’t want to waste time reading something serious.
The news is depressing, the economy sucks, politician’s lie, cheat and steal. So what else is new? (Why do they call it the News anyway? It isn’t news; it is a broken freaking record.)
I would say that 96.4% of Americans are depressed the moment they wake up as they look towards another dreary work day. The other 3.6% are either retired, actually like what they do, or are clinically insane as they wait for the mother-ship to come and pick them and return them to their home planet of Elderon.
The majority of people who realize that work sucks find ways to avoid their jobs. They call out sick, extend their lunch hours to people watch or print out blogs and sit on the hopper for hours on end. (I know I do those things).
I know when I walk into work I rarely hit the floor running. It takes me three hours to contemplate doing actual work, at work. I will try and find anything else to do before beginning my work day.
I will flip a coin a hundred times to see how many times heads or tails comes up. I will stare at the back of my hand to see if I can conjure up a freckle to prove that I do indeed have the Force or I will surf the internet to no end.
I have a feeling that a lot of people are like me. Peeps love to surf the internet instead of work and they are looking for entertainment. Funny is funny and it sells.
There are a million people blogging, the funnier you are the more attention you will get and in this environment you need to stand out.
My team at Waltsense.com has been working hard, two days a week for that last six months and we are already up to four people viewing our blog a day, consistently (Editors note: 600 per day). If we were to have a serious blog, we probably would only have half of that.
Your blogging habits should mirror your real life. You should write what you know. It is the only way to be successful.
Take me for instance:
Growing up skinny and ugly then blossoming into a fat and ugly dude doesn’t really have many benefits. In order to even remotely get a girl interested in me I had to be funny.
It is the only logical explanation as to why I have ever hooked up with a girl. In 34 years I have hooked up with at least six different girls and had sex up to ten different times. Try and top that Wilt Chamberlain!
I can only attribute my success with the ladies to my humor, or the size 48 jeans I am currently wearing. I haven’t figured that one out yet.
Hell, I even got married to a very attractive woman! I define the term “Marrying Up”.
She is way out of my league. If I had to break out the percentage of how I nailed her (he-he, nailed her that cracked me up) I would break it down like this:
76.3% = my sense of humor
3.6% = an ulterior motive (I think she may be using me to get to someone else, check back with me in 5-8 years)
20.1% = Early stages of glaucoma has set in and she has no idea what I actually look like.
Please note that in no instance did I mention my skills in the bedroom. I would have to give myself and incomplete in this area. I do not have enough exposure to adequately grade myself. I think if giving more opportunities the percentage of the ulterior motive would increase and the percentage of sense of humor would naturally decrease.
Either way I landed her. I approach my blogging the same way. If I persistently keep nagging people and borderline stalk them, they will eventually fall to my demands and begin to read my blog.
Just ask my wife.
