Philadelphia Eagles Rant

Good Morning boys and girls!  There is no better feeling than a Monday after a horrible Eagles’ loss.

I can’t listen to sports talk radio, I cannot read the Philadelphia Daily News or I cannot watch Sportscenter without being reminded of the stink bomb the Eagles laid on Sunday.

My week after an Eagles loss is completely thrown out of whack.  I cannot enjoy my normal routine of reading on the John until my legs turn numb or listen to the radio on the way to and from work.  I have to listen to one of the two CD’s in my car and the selections are not good.

I have ever word memorized on the ABBA’s greatest hits CD and I can only listen to the first two songs on the Public Enemy CD, the rest skip furiously.

The Waltdog needs to get a few things off of his chest after yesterday’s game.

If I were mayor for a day I would head to the stadium during the next home game and make Eagles fan’s entering the stadium take a pop quiz.

I would ask them four simple questions, such as:

1) Have you ever called into 610 WIP during the Angelo Cataldi morning show or the Howard Eskin show?

2) Have you ever gotten into an argument about who is a bigger Eagles fan with another Eagles fan?

3) Do you wish the Eagles would fire Andy Reid?

4) Have you ever wished the Eagles would get rid of Donavan McNabb?

If you answered yes to ANY of these four questions, you would not be allowed in the stadium – EVER AGAIN!

Then I would punch you in the face.  After this law was passed the stadium would be more enjoyable, even if there were only fourteen fans allowed in to see the game live.

Eagles’ fans are the worst.  People on television and radio talk about the fans being passionate and knowledgeable about football; they are just being polite and trying to avoid getting pelted with eggs and batteries on their next visit to Philadelphia.

Eagles’ fans are stupid, impatient and annoying as all hell.

Andy Reid is the BEST coach in Eagles history, period.

Donavan McNabb is the best quarterback in Eagles history, period.

Angelo Cataldi is a retard.  Howard Eskin is on the Eagles payroll.  Neither one of them has an honest opinion, they get paid to entertain.  Stop calling them with the same stupid points.

I actually heard someone call the post game show yesterday and say that they hoped McNabb didn’t come back.  Are you serious?  If he doesn’t come back, the Eagles won’t win six games.

That comment enhances my point – Eagles fans are stupid.

I also heard Bill Bergey (who I like) complain about the Eagles fans booing Kolb during the game.  Listen up Bill Bergey, when was the last time you paid for a ticket to an Eagles game?

I pay 70 bucks to get into the game and 48 dollars for a half filled cup of beer.  I will boo whoever the freak I want to boo, whenever I want too.  Who the hell are you to say that the fans shouldn’t boo?

The Eagles sucked yesterday, including Kolb.  That interception to begin the second half was HORRIBLE!

I don’t care if he was 48 for 48 with 600 yards passing and 5 touchdown passes.  If I feel like booing him, he is going to get booed.  I will boo him for the way he walks, or the way he wears his hat on the sidelines.  It is my right as a paying customer.  So stick your complaining up your freaking ass.

If Kevin Kolb cannot take the booing, then he needs to find another profession.  These guys get paid millions of dollars to play a freaking game for a living.  Deal with it.  If Kolb (or anyone else) needs codling, it is time for them to find a new profession.

I am sure Kolb can find a nice paying job at a firm that has a Saturday morning touch football team that desperately needs a ringer quarterback.

Hell maybe he would only throw 2 interceptions in that game.

I like Andy Reid, obviously he has his faults, but he did the entire paying fan base a disservice yesterday.

The specials teams were just God awful.  That was the worst performance I have ever seen out of any of the units during the Andy Reid era.

I lost count but I think they had 42 penalties, a fumble and two terrible, terrible punts.

During one of the good punt returns, there were five flags on the field, caused by two different clipping penalties, resulting in the Eagles getting the ball at their own two yard line.

That is unacceptable.  These people are paid professionals.  It is as if they have never practiced at all.

After the atrocious first half the special teams unit put up, to start the second half with a fumble (which resulted in a quick touchdown for the Saints) is not acceptable.

After the fumble, Andy Reid should have walked over to one of those phones on the sidelines, called up the stadium telecommunication employee and asked to hook up his headset to the stadium PA system.

He should of adamantly apologized to every fan on the PA systems and fired the special teams coach right there on the spot.  Andy should have told him that he is no longer allowed in the locker room and that he should head right to his car; someone would bring his personal belongings out to him in the parking lot.

The paying customer does not deserve this.  It is expensive as hell to go to a game these days.  70 bucks for ticket, 20 bucks to park and you haven’t even entered the stadium yet.

I don’t think Andy should have stopped there.  After Sav Rocca’s second 14 yard punt, giving the Saints the ball at the Eagles 48, he should have gotten back on the PA system and apologized again, then tell Sav to take his helmet, shoulder pads, pants, jersey and cleats off and head to the parking lot.

Let him do the walk of shame in his jock strap, if he even wears one.  I would make him call a cab too.  He sucks that bad.

(It is partly Andy’s fault too, because he did not bring in any competition for Sav Rocca during training camp.  He wasn’t that good last year either, so that surprised me.)

This would have never happened under Jim Harbaugh, which is why he is a great head coach now too.

The Eagles better figure this out quick, or it will be the end of the McNabb and Reid era, and the stupid fans will get their wishes – a boatload of 8-8 or less finishes for another decade.

I hate this city.

Every city, especially in the east coast, has the same issues. Its like saying no one can drive in (Boston, Philly, La, Florida) - it's just a fact people suck everywhere driving and b*tching about their teams. But what is a FACT, McNabb is a great QB who one day will have HOF numbers. Will he win the big one and not be a little momma whiney b*tch? Maybe not. BUT, if you have a top 10 QB you be happy and ride the horse till it dies. That is annoying when they try to run him out town.

Message to all disgruntled Eagles fans: Carolina is 0-2 with Delhomme having his weekly meltdown this season, and The Eagles have Garcia on the roster once again. Oh noz! They lost yesterdayz game???? Cry me a friggin river!

If they don't want Donovan, he can come to NC and finally get the respect that he's earned. You can keep Vick if you want. You'll have the most entertaining non-playoff team in the NFL with him as the #1 guy.

"You hate this city"

"Eagles’ fans are stupid, impatient and annoying as all hell" Who are you Tony Kornheiser?

It is comments like this that give this city a bad rap. I am suprised you did not bring up the Snowballs at Santa.......that happened in 1968!!!! Or the 30 people who bood McNabb at the draft and apparently spoke for the 7 mil people in the Philly area.

The people that call WIP and talk to Eskin and Cataldi are idiots but you are talking about 150 or so people in a city population (including metro, South Jersy and DE) of 7 mil.

You talk about Reid being the best coach in Eagles history, I agree. But if this team would have tried to hold the ball, eat some clock and run the ball....Oh wait, the best coach in team history has yet to get a RB in here who can do that. And when he had it he refused to do it. HE allowed us to get into a shot-out with the best offensive team in the league and our back-up QB. If (when) Westbrook goes down we have McCoy and ? at RB. He has yet to use Weaver with the ball in his hands.

We need a new GM because Reid the GM must go. He need to answer to someone who can build a team. He has no accountability since they make money (uses and mine). When our running game was good we had no WR's, when our D was awesome he let our Pro-Bowl MLB go and we lost in the NFC championship because of his replacement. We had Reno Mahe returning punts and kicks for 2 seasons here...are you kidding me? No matter how many good players and pro-bowl players he gets, he can not build a complete team

And onto McNabb. How can you back a QB who is suppose to be a leader throw his team under the bus after a lose? I will never forget his comments after last seasons championship game when he said "when I left the game we had the lead". WHAT?!?!?! McNabb is to the Birds what Abreu, Leiberthal and Rolen were to the late 90's early 2000 Phillies were and reminds me on the famous Mike Lieberthal quote where he said "I do not understand how Bowa expects us to win 162 games". He will put up numbers (best in team history) and win some games (most in team history)but he is not going to bring us a parade. And you can not tell me or anyone else who reads this that he will, because he has had 5 tries in the NFC championship and only delivered 1 SB appearence which he throw-up in with the game on the line.

Face it Walt, if we keep doing what we are doing we will get what we already got. A good team but not great. A stubborn coach who would rather lose his way that adjust a halftime to the game. A GM who brings in players but does not build a complete team. And a fan base who will come either way.

So hate the city if you want, but if you hate it so bad so going!

But on the brighter side, I have Drew Brees on my fantasy team.

I hear you, though. I'm a Jets fan, and although things are looking up (sort of), I know this futility of which you speak.

Ah Philly Pride, I love your passion. I hate to break it to you but your numbers on the Idiot Eagles fans are way off. I have been a season ticket holder for almost 15 years now, and 80% of the fans in the stadium fall in this realm.

I think it is funny that you base all of you talk about McNabb on his inability to bring a parade to the city of Philadelphia. What other Quarterback in Eagles History has gotten them this close and for this amount of time? None. Be thankful for what you have, once he is gone he will finally be appreciated. It is a shame. You actually bring up the fact that he has been to FIVE NFC Championship games. FIVE TIMES!!!! That is insane, and yet you still want to run him out of town.

You pretty much are making my point for me with those stats.

And you know what? Last year it wasn't McNabb's fault or the O's fault. It was the Defense, so you get pissed at him for telling the truth? This guy cannot win in this city, even for being right.

I watch and cheer for the Birds because I have ties to the city, but let me tell you the life of a Browns fan has not been peaches and cream. We have been doomed since red-right-88. You know what I'm talking about, the fumble, the drive. I still see that in my mind when the season starts. The Browns have not done shit since then. I think this is the cycle of all teams. Like the mighty Pheonix, we will rise again from the ashes. Just remember the Cleveland motto......There's always next year.

I don't know Waltsense but I think he means he is pissed off and hates idiot fans who go with the stupid fan talking points (PUT IN VICK, etc)
I've had season tickets since high school and I can attest a large amount of the fans who go to the game go with the popular pick (PUT IN AJ FEELY, FIRE ANDY RIED, PUT IN KOY) so Walt gets some cred here. You make very valid points but the NFL is not a business you where just wave a wand and you have yourselves complete team. You can argue the Eagles nearly every good as the Pats with a complete team, Donovan just came up short and 3 points - yes he puked. Close, but no cigar. But outside of the few QBS (BEN, TOM, Peyton and now even ELI - UGHH) - McNabb is the man. So do you trot out Kolb or unkowns and just pray??? He has many flaws but he wins. He took those weak teams as you said and made the playoffs. So for that, I think your off buddy. it's the hardest job in ALL of sports and he is damn good at it. The system of Donovan and Andy may have 1-2 years left to win, then its time to rebuild. Now isn't the time. To bad Kolb isn't dirty Sancez

Did I ever once say to get rid of McNabb? I said that up until this point he has shown he can not win us a SB. I never said get rid of him. I do have trouble backing him with his comments after last season championship game though, that was a guttless comment to seperate him and his play from the rest of the team. I do not care who you are, we all learned at a very young age playing sports, no "I" in team, win together, lose together. What would you have done if you were an Eagles defensive player and heard that comment after the game?

He is a top 10 QB in this league but that does not mean he can not be critized. I said he is the best QB this team EVER had. But how can you disagree with the fact that he has only gotten us to the SB once out of 5 NFC championship games. You do not think Jim Kelly was talked about like this? Marino? Elway until his last 2 season? I know they were so that means Buff, Miami and Denver fans are just like us I guess. Until he wins a SB he will be critized and by being critized you should not take is personal....like McNabb seems to do. Up until last seasons playoffs Hamels seemed like he had no heart, no he is a stud and walks on water in Philly's eyes. Until he does it he will never be the king of this city until he his retired.

The only person I said to get rid of was Andy Reid the GM. He has never put a complete team on the field and without Jim Johnson he will be put to the team. Jim Johnson could put a D together and play to their strengths and will be missed. Andy Reid does not seem to do that and tries to put players to play in his system. Not running the ball yesterday in the first half more and getting into that shootout was the biggest joke. Special teams blow, the D sucked, and the fact that we had a RB carry the ball on run plays 8 times in 36 plays in the first half is idiotic. I think Reid the coach would be good if he needed to answer to a GM.

And I said "keep doing what you are doing and you will get what you already got" and by that I mean keep putting the same type of team on the field and we will always get close but never win a SB. Living on the pass has never won a team a SB. Defense and a run game is the proven formula. Reid gets the defense part but the run game is never here.

And about the 80% in the stadium....it sits 67,594 and 80% of that is 54,000 of the millions of Eagles fans. I feel your pain that all the idiots may be around your seats but 80% of all Eagles fans are not idiots.

September 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhilly Pride

And to back up my point about running teams here are the past 6 SB champs and the amout of times they run the ball compared to the Birds:

2008 - Pitt 460 rushing plays; 427 rushing plays
2007 - NYG 469 rushing plays; Birds 421 rushing plays
2006 - Colts 439 rushing plays; Birds 416 rushing plays
2005 - Ptt 549 rushing plays; Birds 365 rushing plays
2004 - Pats 524 rushing plays; Birds 376 rushing plays
2003 - Pats 473 rushing plays; Birds 417 rushing plays

Birds Ave 402 rushing plays per season over the past 6 yrs. Ave for the past 6 SB winners is 485. If Westbrook goes down do you see Reid running the ball over 400 times this season?

So where do you think the problem is? Reid? McNabb? the Fans? I think McNabb is in a no win situation because Reid tryies to re-invent the wheel.

Can you tell I am still pissed about the lose?

September 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhilly Pride

Philly Pride, you are the man. We are all pissed off at that lose. I may agree about the separation of GM and coaching duties and I love to run the ball, but that will never ever happen under Reid and he has been the exception to the rule. They are the most successful franchise in the NFL besides the Patriots and the Steelers since Reid took over. That is pretty good company.

Reid took this franchise from nothing and built it into a Super Bowl contender, year after year. There are not too many head coaches out there that can say that.

September 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWalt

I know, you are right. just pissed off at the lose. I am a big McNabb fan but if I am at the game or watching it on TV and my stupid ass knows what the play is going to be, or what the game plan is, it just makes me mad because there are much smarter people than me on the other side lines.

Also, I take offense to the Philly Fan bashing. There are A-Holes all over the NFL and MLB but everything one idiot does in this town is just magnified to make us good fans look bad. With the media All I hear is the Santa thing in that happen in 1968, or the battery thing to JD Drew, or that we ran Mitch out of town. The same things happen in Boston (Bunkner) and New York (John Rocker and Rollins come to mind), Chicago (beer thrown at Victorino) and LA (guy killed during game) but what hapens here is just blown out of proportion. I like the underdog, us against the world mentality but I do not like to hear it from Philly fans talking about Philly fans. And that is kind of what set me off on your story.

Stay true to not only your team but the city you live in Walt. Stay true to where you came from.

September 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhilly Pride

Trust me Philly Pride, I am sick of being reminded of those knuckleheads too. I am not talking about the instances of people misbehaving, I am talking about the chatter that I hear, week in and week out both on sports talk and down at the stadium. It is exhausting and makes the actually intelligent sports fans in Philadelphia look really, really bad.

Trust me it is widespread, it is not just a select few, like the instances of misbehavior you mentioned.

September 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWalt

Ewww are you two done whining yet? 4 weeks from now you will both be laying in bed next to each other and saying how there is no way any team in the NFL can come close to scoring on the Eagles or trying to stop the quad threat of DeSean, The Dog Whisperer, Irish 5 and Wild Wild Westbrook. We all hate to lose and especially when we get blown away at home. Its one game we need t make adjustments and we need to get McNabb back. We will be fine and will be there come playoff time.

Bunndini hates the Eagles. He is a Bengals fan.

September 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWalt

Good rant, Walter. You don't hate the city though. Bunndinni makes a good point too, but Shama Lama seems to be a genius! We have a long, long way to go. The past few seasons the Saints have been the Phoenix Suns of the NFL, so I am not worried about them...yet.
