Michael Vick Shows How Backwards Society Is
Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 10:18AM I am so tired of the Mike Vick story, and we still have a ton of coverage left on this story. I never thought I would rather talk about Brett Favre returning for the 82nd time.
Here we go folks. A team will hire Mike Vick, he will play, and he will electrify at times but in most cases he will play poorly. Guess what? There will be protests as people love to protest.
Most of my blogs are somewhat on the humorous side. This one may be a little on the serious side, there may even be a little venom in it.
I think we should let Mike Vick play again. I am not condoning his acts. They were horrendous, despicable, terrible and disgusting. (Those are the biggest words in my vocabulary)
The great part about living in the Free World is mostly every one gets a second chance, heck some people even get third, fourth and fifth chances, which is great. It is what our beautiful country is all about.
I want to preface this by saying: I absolutely love dogs. I am just not very passionate about the subject to care as much as the PETA folks. I just want to point something out how backwards we have become as a society.
Ever since Mike Vick was caught leading a dog fighting ring, his face and story has been plastered all over the news. He killed dogs and that is horrible. He did his time in jail and now he hopes to become an active member of society again.
He is a gifted, electrifying athlete, who has committed a terrible crime and people passionate enough about the subject have every right to protest him and the team who may hire him. That is not my point.
My point is we are backwards as a society. We seem to care more about the welfare of a pack of dogs, than we do about human beings.
Leonard Little was drafted in 1998 in the third round. In October of that same year, Mr. Little got into a drunk driving accident and killed someone. He KILLED someone. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served 60 days in jail with 1000 hours of community service.
He served 60 days (2 months) in jail for killing a human being. Mike Vick served almost two years (19 months) in jail for killing dogs. That makes no sense.
No one but the family of the deceased person even blinked an eye about Leonard Little returning to football, at the time he was too insignificant. He wound up haveing a quality career in the NFL. He was an All Pro and made the Pro Bowl. He won a Super Bowl with the Rams and made a ton of money in the process.
You know what else he did? 6 years after killing someone while driving drunk, Mr. Little got caught drinking and driving again in 2004! In 2006, he signed a contract extension with a signing bonus of 6.1 million dollars and no one made a fuss about his past. He was too good at his job. His mistakes were mentioned but no one seemed to really care.
There weren’t people picketing games, there weren’t people lining the streets screaming injustice. I don’t even think the press reported on this issue at that time.
That shows you how f*cked up we are as a society.
A guy kills another human being and does 60 days in jails and no one protests his return to the spotlight, he even cashing in. A guy kills a pack of dogs and does approximately 570 days in jail and gets protested for trying to earn a living afterwards, and teams are deathly afraid of the backlash they will receive for letting the guy play football.
It makes no sense to me.
As a die hard Eagles fan I used to love when the Eagles played the Mike Vick led Falcons. It was a guaranteed win. He was too one dimensional and Jimmy Johnson (the Eagles Defensive Coordinator) knew this and he would capitalize on it.
It was the only time the Eagles were a sure thing in the NFC Championship game. To put it mildly, Mike Vick stinks. He is electrifying though.
I think he deserves a second chance. We all do. I think Leonard Little would agree.
On a separate note: I got a new motto folks. These words of wisdom have helped me through some very difficult times. If you need too, write this down, it will come in handy: "If it is yellow, let it mellow, if it is brown, flush it down"
That couldn’t be more true.

I agree Walter A. If Mike Vic was a gas station attendant then not one person would show up where he works and protest this guy. He messed up and he messed up bad. He spent two years in jail… done and done. Now this guy needs to go back to work and it happens that his work is in pro football. He is lucky and fortunate to be that talented. So all the PETA members need to move on and find something better to do. Your jealousy and hatred of celebrities and rich people has run its course... Jump on your high horse and take it out of town...Or did you get upset that I said High Horse because you do not condone horses doing drugs. Why not go protest the guys who are beating or murdering their wives and or girlfriends.
I just heard Andy Reid wants to sign Vick to play in the backfield alongside Westbrook and run the wildcat formation.
PETA, is full of shit, they used vick for publicity and turned around and euthanized the dogs.
not saying what he did was correct, but, this country cares more for dogs than ppl.
how soon we forget helicopters rescuing dogs while ppl were drowning in New Orleans. we don't give a damn about carpet bombing ppl into oblivion, the starving ppl in the mountains of west virginia or the state of pennsylvania profitting from selling us alcohol. plaster a abused dog on the glaze box and we get up in arms!
ps -- the photo edit of the vick shot is priceless!!!! ROFL!!!!
agreed and agreed. I kind of think no team will take him cause of the uproar and basically he is a one tricky pony QB. Plus no football for two years and his age will hurt him.
On a funny side - FreakSMACK - your site is hysterical. I would like to place a picture of Walt in blackout mode on that site.
I was thinking the same thing, Walt. Vick is fun to watch on the field...I would hate to lose my job because of my illegal nighttime activities...ooops - did I say that out loud? Maybe I wouldn't mind...oh nevermind...
I've thought it was overkill (no pun intended) from the get-go. Too bad there's not a PETP (People for the Ethical Treatment of People) group to raise hell.
My bet is that Vick ends up a Raider.
I am glad to come here. Thank you. Your site looks grand. The visual picture talks and thus enlightens your words.
It's my first visit, yet I will be back soon, for sure. Meanwhile welcome to my art mirror http://artmirror.blogspot.com/ I hope you will have a good time with my artworks too.
I'm totally with you on this. I wonder if Michael Vick will be allowed to be a dog owner again?
How can you justify allowing Vick a second chance by comparing his crime to other "similar" crimes? I don't care how many people have gotten away with abusing dogs or abusing kids or killing dogs or killing people or whatever in the past, the past in no way should influence what happens to Michael Vick now. One thing has nothing to do with the other; it just doesn't. You want to know why so many people seem to care more that Vick's crimes happened to dogs (and less about what happens to people)? It's because dogs are totally DEFENCELESS! Dogs have absolutely no control, they are totally dependent on their caregivers. Not true for people. Most of the people you say we don't care about (wives, girlfriends being abused, starving people in West VA, homeless people; they ALL have some control over their own situation. Except for abused kids and there again, the laws are so inadequate; if it were up to me, people would have to be licensed to have children. And yes, I will be one of the so-called idiots protesting if M. Vick ever plays again!!!
Ah W McFarland. I think you take this issue a little too seriously. I am going to somewhat justify my point in comparing two separate crimes, one against dogs and one against human beings, both being related to NFL football players.
Someone getting hit by a drunk driver DID NOT have control over their actions. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet the instances where this happened involving NFL players was way more lenient than what Mike Vick has gone through.
Mike Vick served TWO YEARS in jail and lost everything he owned and he deserved it. He has paid his debt to society for his wrong doings.
Donte Stallworth killed someone while driving drunk and served less than a month in jail. How is that fair?
You see, you can compare the two. It is actually quite easy.
This just goes back to my point of not understanding protesters, I am not that passionate about anything.
